POLICE are appealing for witnesses following an assault at a bar in Burnley on Sunday.

Around 2-30 a.m. a 24-year-old man from the town was hit by another man in Pharaohs late night bar in Hargreaves Street.

He suffered a fractured cheekbone and was treated at Royal Blackburn Hospital. He is due to have corrective surgery later this week.

A 20-year-old man, also from Burnley, was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released while further inquiries are carried out.

DC Andrew Maden said: “The incident took place inside the bar on the ground floor close to the front windows. I believe the bar would have been very busy at this time and I want to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.”

Anybody with any information is asked to contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
