Man plunges to his death from Pendle Hill

A man has died following a paragliding accident on Pendle Hill.

Emergency services were called shortly after noon yesterday to Well Springs, Sabden, where the man had been paragliding with a friend.

Initial reports suggest the man fell about 30ft. to the ground after the canopy of his glider collapsed.

Police, paramedics, the air ambulance and mountain rescue teams attended and despite their best efforts the 48-year-old man, from Lytham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation is ongoing to try to establish the precise cause of the accident and a post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

The man’s family has been informed.
