Man found dead in car is named

A 51-year-old man who was found dead in his car sparking a chemical alert has been named.

Robert Williams, of Leet Road, Higham, was discovered in Barley in the early hours of Friday.

Fears over dangerous chemicals forced firefighters to call in specialist hazardous materials fire teams to the scene in Barley New Road and nine firefighters in protective gear helped recover Mr Williams’s body from the vehicle.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious but the East Lancashire Coroner has been informed and an inquest is due to be opened tomorrow.
