Man dies and three seriously injured after car collides head on with cab in Burnley

Investigations are ongoing after a man died in a fatal road traffic collision in Burnley this morning.

Two women and a man have also suffered serious injuries in the incident which happened at 1 am.

Police say a Ford Mondeo car collided head on with a black cab as it turned from Rossendale Road on to Manchester Road.

The driver of the Mondeo, a 24-year-old man believed to be from St Helens, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are still to be informed.

The driver of the black cab and his two female passengers, who are 35 and 55 years old, were taken to hospital. Their injuries are described as serious, but are not thought to be critical.

The road was closed until 6-30 am whilst accident investigation work was carried out.

Burnley Police Insp. Andy Carter said it was too early to say how and why the accident happened.
