A man has died and several other motorists were badly injured following a serious road accident this morning in Hapton.
The accident happened at around 7-35am on the Shuttleworth Hall Link Road as hundreds of motorists were making their way to work.
The fatality ,a man in his 30s believed to be a father of four, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Five cars were involved in the accident and one victim was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries.
Fire crews were called to the scene to free several of the casualties trapped in the vehicles involved.
The road was closed for several hours while police carried out investigations into the crash. It has since been re-opened and gritted but drivers have been warned to take care as engine oil may still be on the road surface.
