Stephen Dawtrey (30) grabbed the woman by the arm and the trouble did not stop until she got to her parents’ home.

Burnley magistrates were told how the victim was left with bruising, Dawtrey was controlling and she had a domestic violence worker.

Ben Leech (defending) said: “His loving manner is being presented to the court as a controlling element of a domestic violence relationship, something he has difficulty in accepting.”

Dawtrey, of no fixed address, admitted assault by beating on November 28th.

He received a 12 month community order, a 20 day rehabilitation activity requirement, 40 hours unpaid work and must pay £80 compensation and £150 costs. The justices also imposed a restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim or entering Hunslet Street, Burnley.
