Major road closed after accident due to sheet ice on roads across Burnley and Padiham.

The accident happened on Padiham Road in Sabden which resulted in the closure of the road being closed between the village and Padiham.

The accident was one of several across the borough tonight as a result of sheet ice on the road.

A spokesman for Burnley and Padiham Police said: "The roads are awful tonight as a result of the ice so where possible it would be best to avoid road travel, or at least stick to the main roads whilst driving at speeds suitable for the road conditions."

Crown Point Road, Woodplumpton Road and the area outside Towneley Garden Centre in Burnley were also affected by ice.
