M65 closed after man threatens to jump from bridge

The M65 was closed for around 20 minutes this morning after a man threatened to jump off a motorway bridge.

Police were called to Junction 13 at Reedyford, near to Nelson and Colne College, at around 5-30am this morning.

The slip road was also shut, as officers talked to the man, who was stood on the wrong side of the bridge.

The man, who was wearing his hood up, was talked down from the scene after around 20 minutes and the motorway was re-opened. He was taken to Burnley General Hospital.

The footbridge is the same one where a Barrowford woman fell to her death in November last year.

There have been a number of incidents of people threatening to jump from the bridge over the past year, and now debates are being sparked on social media as to whether fencing is needed.
