M65 chaos as several accidents cause severe disruption

A broken down vehicle has caused further disruption on the M65 following two serious accidents involving several vehicles near Burnley this morning (Wednesday).

Police said the vehicle was broken down in a live lane on an eastbound carriageway at Junction 10.

Motorway police described the motorway as being like “a car park” following several accidents.

East Lancashire News reporter William Cook, travelling from Langho to Burnley, said: “It was a nightmare. It took me 65 minutes to do 13 miles.”

The first accident, involving three vehicles, happened near to the eastbound exit slip road of Junction 10 at Burnley around 8am.

A second collision took place around 8-30am on the westbound carriageway with three vehicles blocking at least one lane.

Motorway police reported that traffic was queuing in both directions and that at least one person was stood in the central reservation.

Another accident took place near to Junction 4 for Ewood, Blackburn, on the westbound carriageway.
