Lucky escape for family as tree falls on car near Whalley

The man and his two young children were travelling along Mitton Road when the tree fell on top of the vehicle earlier this afternoon.

The accident happened near to the Three Fishes restaurant at Great Mitton around 1-30pm along the road between Whalley and Hurst Green.

The tree crashed down across the bonnet of the silver 4x4 but the driver and his children escaped unharmed.

Paramedics attended the scene as a precaution.

The road was blocked by the fallen tree for around half an hour as locals hacked off branches to allow vehicles through.
