Long-serving employee Ned at Buckingham Palace

Burnley Council's longest serving worker rubbed shoulders with royalty after being chosen to represent the town at a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Ned Kershaw, who works in the council’s parks department, and his wife Kaye, travelled to London and saw the aftermath of the recent incident in which an intruder climbed over the palace walls and sparked a major security operation.

It is customary for the Mayor to represent the council at this annual event, but the town’s new first citizen, Coun. Jeff Sumner, having previously had the pleasure of attending a Royal garden party, agreed that this year’s invite should go to one of the longest serving council employees instead.

Ned, who has been with the council 45 years, said: “It was a wonderful day and we both had a great time we’ll remember forever.

“We saw the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Camilla and we were allowed to wander around the gardens.”

The Mayor said: “I’m happy Ned and Kaye had such a fantastic time and I know they did a wonderful job representing Burnley at Buckingham Palace.”
