Local soldiers in Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment return from Afghanistan
THERE were tears on joy this weekend as some 85 members of 1st Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, arrived back at Catterick Garrison after a six-month tour of Afghanistan.
Proud family members watched the heroes return, marching on to the square at Somme Barracks - but the thoughts of many were with the families of the three soldiers who did not make it back - Cpl Taniela Rogoiruwai, L/Cpl Jordan Bancroft, from Burnley, and Kingsman Ponipate Tagitaginimoce
After the formal parade ended, there were emtional scenes as the soldiers were mobbed by their loved ones.
