Teacher Lisa Briercliffe (38), from Brierfield, organised the event as a thank you for the support she has received from both charities after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year. The “99 Pink Balloons” evening was a metaphor for Lisa’s own cold war journey, taken from the song “99 Red Balloons” by Nena, with the last line about letting go as the balloons were released into the sky.

The night featured music, magic and stand-up comedy by James Cockerill, Rickey Reid and Pete Leigh. Lisa said: “I’m truly grateful to everyone who donated and made the night an outstanding success.”
