The book contains the names of over 8,000 people whose loved ones dedicated a light to their memory in the run up to Christmas.

The lights were displayed all around the outside of the hospice building at Reedley and were first lit the weekend before Christmas and then shone out all through Christmas and New Year.

Anyone that dedicated a light to a loved one can visit the hospice and view their loved ones name in the Book of Remembrance, which is kept on display in the main reception area.

Hospice Fundraising Manager, Mrs Kaye Bartle said: “Light up a Life is a very special time of year for us at the hospice as it gives us the opportunity during the hustle and bustle in the run up to Christmas to reflect and remember our loved ones who are no longer with us and who lit up our lives in a special way.

“The lights shine out all over Christmas as a reminder of the love we hold in our hearts. When the lights come down we start to compile this special book so that people can come and spend some reflective time at other times of the year.”

Light up a Life raises thousands of pounds each year so that Pendleside can continue to make a difference to the quality of life of people in our community and to support them and their family through difficult times. Donations in 2014 saw a new record for this campaign with more than £110,000 raised.

Light up a Life is sponsored each year by Alderson and Horan Funeral Service and they presented the leather-bound Book of Remembrance to Mrs Bartle.

Reception opening times at the hospice are 9am-7-30pm Monday to Friday and 1-30pm-7-30pm at weekends. The book is in the main reception area and is available to view during these times.
