It was very well supported once again by people wanting to remember their loved ones at Christmas, raising over £110,000 and seeing almost 8,000 people remembered by having a coloured light dedicated to their memory.

The lights were displayed all around the outside of the hospice building throughout Christmas and New Year after being lit at a special service on December 20th.

More than 1,000 people attended the switch on service where performances by Basics Junior Theatre School and Grace O’Malley were enjoyed.

Of the appeal, sponsored by Alderson and Horan Funeral Services, hospice fund-raiser Kaye Bartle said: “Christmas time can so difficult if that special person isn’t around to enjoy it with you and particularly so if it’s the first Christmas without them.

“Light up a Life gives us the opportunity to take time out from this busy time of year and say that although you won’t be here to spend Christmas with us we will remember you and you are still an important part of our lives. The money raised from Light up a Life will allow us to help many other families in our community that need our help and support through a difficult time.”

You can still send your donation to make sure the name of your loved one is in a Book of Remembrance which will be produced in the coming weeks to go on display in the main entrance of the hospice throughout the year. Call 440120 or visit www.pendleside.org.uk.
