LATEST: Ladder fall workman airlifted to hospital

A man in his 40s was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after he fell from a ladder while working at the Farmhouse Biscuits factory in Nelson.

The North-West Air Ambulance was called to the factory at the junction of Brook Street and Chapelhouse Road after the incident, which occurred shortly before 1-30pm.

Police and a land ambulance also attended the scene, and the air ambulance landed on the Chapelhouse Road car park in order to attend to the casualty, who is understood to have suffered a head injury, before transferring him to the hospital.

It is thought the man was working on a building extension when the accident occurred.

The incident was widely commented on via social media. Others posted pictures of the air ambulance as it came in to land on the car park.
