Large fire rips through Brierfield houses

FLAMES ripped through the roof of a derelict house in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).

The fire, believed to have been started deliberately, spread to the house next door in the terraced Cambridge Street, Brierfield, at 3-07am.

Watch manager Nigel Boden, of Nelson Fire and Rescue, said: “The house was unoccupied and therefore left open. It appears someone has got in and started the fire deliberately.

“It very quickly spread and our firefighters used two jets and an aerial ladder platform to put out the blaze.”

Investigations are continuing.
