A magical lantern parade through Burnley town centre will illuminate this year’s Christmas lights switch-on.
The event, which will take place from 4pm on Saturday November 18th, will be open to anyone who would first like to attend free workshops.
Organisers of the parade, which includes Burnley Town Centre Management, Burnley Central Library and Creative Alliance artists, are looking for people to take part.
During half term week there will be creative workshops in Burnley town centre where people of any age or ability will be able to join the Lantern Squad, make a free lantern, and then take part in the Light Parade with what they have made.
Drop-in lantern-making workshops will be taking place from 12pm to 4pm on October 30th and November 3rd at Pop-Up Festival Venue at 93 St James’s Street, October 31st at The Shift Café, November 1st at Burnley Markets, and November 2nd at Burnley Mechanics.
There will also be creative workshops at Burnley Central Library on October 30th and 31st 2pm to 4pm and November 4th from 1-30pm to 3-30pm.
The workshops and Light Parade are being delivered with the help of Stocks Massey Bequest funding. The workshops are free to take part in and all materials needed to make the lanterns will be provided.
Coun. Sue Graham said: “I’m excited to see a Light Parade in Burnley town centre as part of a great weekend of events to mark the start of the Christmas period.”
