He is due to meet Labour candidate Azhar Ali, who is hoping to oust sitting Conservative MP Andrew Stephenson, in what is believed to be a close-run battle.

He will also be addressing campaigners and party stalwarts on his eve-of-poll tour.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Miliband said: ”It is clear far too many families in the area are facing a cost of living crisis created by the Tories, who boast about an economic recovery. But while it may have brought the banker bonuses back to the City of London, it has not reached the front door of families in Colne, Nelson, Padiham and Burnley.”

We’ll have a report, photos and video from the high-profile visit online.
