In probably her most famous song “Big Yellow Taxi”, Joni Mitchell sings “You don’t always know what you’ve got til it’s gone”.
And, although it’s not under any threat of going just yet, if you’ve forgotten how worthwhile climbing Pendle Hill is for its glorious views, why not join an organised ascent on Saturday starting at 10 am from Downham, where you’ll catch the bus to Barley for the path up?
The guided climb, which descends via Downham Moor, is part of this year’s Festival Bowland, which celebrates the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You’ll need to book - call 01200 448000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. It costs £3 plus bus fares.
You’ll also need to take a packed lunch. Dogs are welcome, providing they are on a lead.
