Jobs hope as Inside Spa at Pendle Wavelengths expands

The local luxury place to unwind and de-stress was opened in July, 2007. It was made possible by a joint venture between Pendle Council, Pendle Leisure Trust and Alliance Leisure - a company that specialises in developing leisure facilities for local authorities.

Aware that stress is a major health concern in the area, Pendle Leisure Trust wanted to complement its sports and fitness provision with the addition of a holistic spa.

And what makes the trust’s efforts truly unique is that it brings something to the public that is normally a private sector venture. It specifically targets people from a wider variety of backgrounds, making the Spa experience accessible to more people. And it also attracts people from further afield to the area.

The expansion – due to open at the end of this month – will include a new manicure and pedicure bay, four new treatment rooms and a new relaxation room.

The former meeting room at Pendle Wavelengths is being converted into four new treatment rooms and two of the current four treatment rooms are to be made into a relaxation room.

The relaxation space will house lounger beds, chairs and footstools. It will have low lighting, soft, relaxing music and gentle aromatherapy to create a haven in which to relax.

An area in the main reception is to be converted into a manicure and pedicure bay. A door is to be placed at the entrance to the existing Spa zone and the curved wall will be removed to create additional seating for groups on pamper days.

Mr Phil Storey, chief executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “We are building on something that has been a huge success. Since Inside Spa opened, it has had lots of visitors - a lot who are now regular attenders.

“The facilities have also attracted lots of people from throughout the country and this is what we want to build on – bringing more money and people into Nelson.

“So, as well as providing health and wellbeing, we can also provide a very good business model, which in turn is helping to reduce the overall costs of leisure in Pendle.”
