Inquest opens into death of family doctor (43)

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a well known and respected young doctor who died after a battle against pancreatic cancer.

The hearing into the death of Dr Michael Barsby was opened on Tuesday, December 31st, at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court by East Lancashire Coroner Mr Michael Singleton. The inquest was adjourned to Clitheroe Town Hall on Thursday, January 30th.

Dr Barsby, who was 43, was a GP at the Kiddrow Lane Health Centre in Burnley for 16 years. A father of three teenage sons, Dr Barsby was also well known in his hometown of Clitheroe where he provided inspiration for a fund raising calendar produced by his wife, Susan and their friends at CrossFit Gym.

After his diagnosis in October, 2012, Dr Barsby underwent pioneering surgery in Germany
