Counterfeit tobacco and fireworks have been seized from a Burnley barbers shop over public safety fears, after a raid by Trading Standards.
Officers found 231 packets of illicit cigarettes and hand rolling tobacco and 70kg of fireworks containing 23kg of explosives.
The cigarettes, which do not display the required health warnings, have now been confirmed as counterfeit.
Trading Standards officers said the fireworks, including large rockets and multi-shot barrages, were being kept illegally. The shop did not having the required storage licence and the fireworks were not being stored in accordance with safety guidelines. Officers seized all of the items in the interests of public safety.
Mr Paul Noone, head of Lancashire Trading Standards, said: “Good intelligence is invaluable to the Trading Standards service, as this seizure shows. The sale of illicit tobacco is always of concern, as it may be more easily available to children.
“Fireworks stored illegally and unsafely can be a danger to local businesses and residents. We’re pleased that this seizure by our team will remove this risk.”
