Hypothermic woman saved in dramatic Nelson canal bank rescue

A vulnerable woman suffering from hypothermia was plucked to safety from a steep canal bank in Nelson.

Rescue teams were scrambled to save the woman who was found under the Swinden Aqueduct in the town.

The casualty was stuck down banking near the Leeds and Liverpool Canal off Cravendale Avenue.

The Pendle and Rossendale Mountain Rescue Team, North West Air Ambulance and firefighters from Nelson Fire Station were called out around 5-15pm on Saturday.

The woman was pulled to safety by emergency services and taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital.
