Up to a thousand tyres have been dumped in a scenic spot in Read.
An eyewitness spotted the driver of a large wagon cut the lock on gates near to the entrance to Read Hall, off Whalley Road, around 10pm on Sunday.
The wagon then reversed and dumPed the tyres.
Mr Phil Hanson, who lives nearby, said: “Dumping these tyres is just terrible. Luckily, a motorist spotted the wagon and took its registration.
“The spot is very popular with walkers and is a lovely area. I hope whoever is responsible is caught and brought to justice. Unfortunately, it is an unadopted road so the tyres have still not been cleared away.”
Police confirmed they had received details of the wagon and had passed these on to the Environment Agency.
