Huge outdoor music festival to be staged in Burnley

FORGET Glastonbury, V and One Big Weekend – a huge outdoor music festival is coming to Towneley Park.

The first of its kind in Burnley, a stellar line-up of A-list chart-topping acts are on the bill for the show, scheduled to take place on the weekend of Saturday, August 13th.

Tickets are due to go on sale next month and although promoters cannot officially name the groups taking part yet they are promising “a day the town will never forget”.

The family event, expected to draw crowds of up to 30,000, will be the biggest music festival the town has ever seen.

The main event is to take place on the Saturday and will run until 10 p.m. with gates opening at 1 p.m. A second event, aimed at an older audience, is also being considered for Friday night or Sunday afternoon.

A spokesman for music promoters Livewyre, who are organising the festival, said the festival is great news for the area. “Everything will be in place, with the line-up and ticket prices being announced, by early May.

“This will be the biggest music festival ever held in Burnley and will be an event the town will never forget.

“Hopefully if we get the support for this one this year it will become an annual event and a highlight in the town’s calendar.”

Mr Mick Cartledge, Burnley Council’s director of community services, said: “This event will be fantastic for Burnley, providing residents and people from the surrounding areas alike with a unique opportunity to enjoy nationally famous acts in their own town. The event will definitely put Burnley on the map as one of the places to come for live music.

“The line-up for the main day is targeted at young people and families and we know from our recent consultation with young people a large scale music event is exactly what they want.”
