FIRE crews battled a blaze for hours after it engulfed a gable end house.

The fire broke out at the unoccupied property in Holme Road, Burnley, at around 11-50 p.m. yesterday.

An aerial ladder platform was used to get the blaze under control with firefighters unable to enter the unstable building.

They left the scene at 5 a.m. but were due back today to ensure it did not reignite.

Three basement rooms, four ground floor rooms and four first floor rooms were all severely damaged by the fire.
