AN investigation has been launched into a huge blaze at Primet Business Park, Colne, which is being treated as arson.

The fire ripped through a storage facility owned by EasiStore4U in the early hours of July 6th, causing extensive damage.

Two Ferarris were burned out and 75% of the roof of the building collapsed as the fire took hold.

Around 70 firefighters tackled the blaze which led to road closures and caused traffic chaos across the town during rush hour.

It was originally thought the fire had started accidentally, but following an investigation by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service it is now being treated as arson.

Spokesman for the fire service Richard Edney said: “Our investigation found the fire had been started deliberately in the store room by someone lighting paper or card and spread from there.”

The police have now taken up the case and are carrying out inquiries in the area to catch the person responsible.

Sgt Damian Pemberton from Colne police said: “We are making localised inquiries and looking at CCTV as well as speaking to the aggrieved parties. As the investigation progresses it will be passed on to CID.”

This is the second serious fire at Primet Business Park in two years. The first was also thought to be deliberate.
