Huge cannabis farm discovered in Brierfield

CANNABIS with an estimated street value of over £180,000 has been discovered at a detached house in Brierfield.

Police found 300 plants after a raid at the four bedroom property in Massey Street yesterday afternoon.

Officers have been carrying out forensic inquiries at the address to identify those responsible.

Community Beat Manager PC Brian Magee said: “This was an extremely sophisticated commercial cultivation operation which had clearly been in place for some time.

“The cannabis ranged from seedlings to mature plants, some of which were up to 7ft tall.

“We are aware of concerns about drugs in the area after residents raised the issue at a local PACT meeting and I hope this action reassures people the police are committed to working with communities to remove drugs from our streets.”
