A YOUNG horse rider was airlifted to hospital after falling off her horse during Trawden Agricultural Show.

The victim - a 20-year-old believed to be from a Foulridge farm - fell from the horse but her foot was caught in the stirrup. She was dragged along by the horse and trodden on by it. She suffered a knee injury.

Colne First Aiders went to help her and asked Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team - who were at the show - to join them. They treated jointly her but called an ambulance.

There was no road ambulance available at the time and the helicopter was sent there after it had dropped off another casualty at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Mountain rescue used a smoke flare to show the helicopter where to land in a field near the busy site of the show. The victim was then placed on the helicopter and send to Blackburn for treatment. It was reported she had a painful knee injury but was fully conscious and communicative.
