Jill then moved to London and Germany before settling in Harrogate in 1978. She has been Assistant District Commissioner for Cubs, was District Commissioner for 15 years and is currently District Cub Scout leader.

Eric Fell, North Yorkshire County Vice President, presented the award to Jill following the Cub Scout Camping Competition at Thornthwaite Campsite in North Yorkshire. The Campsite was chosen by Jill for the presentation as it is a place very close to her heart.

She was District Commissioner when the District started negotiations to buy the site and continues to be very active in maintaining and improving the amenities there.

Jill (68) said: “I’m really proud and honoured to be given an award for something I’m so passionate about. I believe Scouting gives young people skills for life and it is a privilege to watch them develop into confident and independent individuals.

“Over the years I have worked with some exceptional people and formed lasting friendships.”

Jill is also a member of the Harrogate District Executive, campsite committee and scout active support unit. She also runs the District shop, supplying badges and books to all groups.

Outside of Scouting Jill is a volunteer usher at Harrogate Theatre and The Royal Hall. A former school teacher, she volunteers one day a week at a school in Bradford. Jill is also a season ticket holder at Burnley Football Club.
