Help for families in fuel poverty

Councillors are being asked to give the go-ahead for Burnley Council to enter into a partnership with Blackpool Council to deliver the Cosy Homes in Lancashire (CHiL) project.

The scheme could potentially help around 100 households in Burnley, depending on demand and the work carried out.

Coun. John Harbour, the council’s Executive member for housing and environment, said: “This scheme will help families in Burnley who are in fuel poverty and desperately struggling to keep their home warm.

“Installing these kind of energy efficient measures will also reduce fuel bills and help ease the strain on the family budget.”

CHil is a Lancashire-wide scheme which enables those people who meet certain criteria access a number of energy saving works including new boiler and central heating systems, and cavity wall and loft insulation.

The issue will be discussed at a meeting of Burnley Council’s Executive Committee this evening.
