A NINE-YEAR-OLD Burnley girl has left her mark on the future of secondary education in Burnley!
In years to come, Heather Ashworth will be able to say she chose the name for Unity College – currently known as "School C" that will occupy a site in the Towneley area and be led by current Towneley High School headteacher Mrs Sally Cryer.
The Cliviger St John's CE Primary School pupil texted in her entry as part of a competition spearheaded by local radio station 2BR to find a new name which was judged by the new school's governors late into Wednesday night.
The competition drew suggestions for more than 150 different names, many from junior school pupils.
"They wanted to change the name to one that sums up the vision of the new college that will be uniting the whole community," said Mrs Cryer. "It was a very, very difficult decision to make."
She went on: "Now the school's been named, it's real because before it was only School C and didn't have any meaning. Now it is the real start and it is full steam ahead for plans for the new college!"
