Staff working in orthopaedic teams at local hospitals have earned another award.
The East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust earned second place in the top three performing Trusts in the North West in ‘Hip and Knee’ and ‘Community Acquired Pneumonia’ in care awards assessed by the NHS. It is the third achievement for the staff led by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Sriranga Kamath.
Successful joint replacements, with planned elective surgery carried out at Burnley, put the Trust in the top five in England.
Patients needing emergency orthopaedic surgery are cared for at Blackburn. The team there, led by consultant Mr Vinod Shah was also placed in the top five of all 182 eligible Trusts for treating patients with fractured hips.
Trauma and orthopaedics clinical director Makaram Srinivasan said: “This is a fantastic achievement for all the teams who work so hard in both the emergency and planned aspect of orthopaedics.
“Our patient feedback tells us that we are certainly getting our care and treatment right and improving outcomes for all the patients we see in the service.”
