Mum Elisabeth Devey topped her £10,000 target for the Brain Tumour Charity with a marathon run at Disneyland.

She started “Liz to the Limit” after learning that her best friend Natalie Gabrielsen had been diagnosed with a serious brain tumour.

Mum-of-one Natalie and her husband, Morten, live in Burnley. Elisabeth (33) donned her trademark Mickey Mouse ears for the run and completed the circuit in six hours 14 minutes.

“I was over the moon that I managed the run, and to find out on the same day that the fund has made £10,500,” she said. “I was worried because it was supposed to be hot, but there was a lot of cloud cover, so it was cooler. I don’t think I would have finished in that heat,”

Elisabeth, from Rishton, was accompanied by fellow runner and friend Andrew Etheridge (38).

She began raising cash for the charity after Natalie’s grade 4 tumour was confirmed 18 months ago. Never previously particularly active, she first trained for a 10km run and followed that with the Birmingham half-marathon. She lost three stone so she could do a sky drive, organised a charity ball and finally headed off to Florida for the marathon.

All the cash has now been handed over to the Brian Tumour Charity. It will be given a further boost when Elisabeth keeps her final promise.

She said she would have her hair shaved off if, and when, her efforts raised £10,000 - and that is exactly what she intends to do, on Friday, March 13th. Any further donations will add to the total, and there will be a raffle, for hair products.
