A family of animal lovers has been left distraught after their pet kitten was shot and had to have its leg amputated as a result.
Stephen and Claire Pilkington, of Station Road, Padiham, are furious a thug shot one-year-old Ewok through the leg with a pellet.
The couple, who own Padiham Angling Centre, are worried that next time a child could be seriously injured.
Claire said: “I came home from work on Thursday evening and found Ewok limping heavily.
“We took her to the vets and X-Rays showed she had a shattered femur on her back right leg. They also found a pellet in there so it’s obvious someone has shot her with an airgun.
“The vets said they would have to amputate the leg. We have three young children who are very upset by this. It is concerning as next time it could be a child that gets shot.”
Mrs Pilkington said Ewok, who they took in as a stray a year ago, usually roams around the Padiham Greenway and park near their home. She added: “We have five cats, including another one which only has three legs. Thankfully, Ewok survived and she is recovering well but we just hope the police catch whoever did this. It is very low.”
