Five intrepid Burnley women have chosen Independence Day to take on the fastest zip-line in the world.
They will be zapping through the air at 100mph, reaching a height of 1,500 feet, when they take on Velocity on Saturday, July 4th.
None of the women – four staff and one customer at The BASE hairdressers in Brown Street, just off St James’s Street, Burnley, have ever taken on a high flying stunt before.
But they are keen to test their nerve to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice.
Owner Sandra Murray has enlisted the support of her staff members Elizabeth Porter, Vicki Alderson, Jenny Richards and friend and customer Anne Walmsley, better known as local magician Magik-An.
Together they will head off to Snowdonia in North Wales to take on the chilling challenge and are hoping to find supporters to sponsor them.
The Velocity zip-line is a major attraction at Zip World at the Llechwedd Slate Caverns, near the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog which opened in March 2013. It includes a pair of zip-lines, a mile long, where riders can exceed 100mph and experience the nearest thing to flying.
It also has a Titan ride which is the first four-person zip-line in Europe which the girls also hope to tackle on their weekend in Wales.
They hope to raise at least £1,000. Magik-An is also raffling a luxury food and drinks hamper and can be contacted on 413597 if people want to donate or buy tickets.
There is also a sponsor sheet in the hairdressers, call 458888.
