HAPTON pupils will soon be hitting the airwaves after their school received a huge cash boost.

County Coun. Susie Charles, Cabinet member for children and schools, visited Hapton CE Methodist Primary School last week to officially announce that £370,000 is being given to the school, some of which will be used to create a radio station.

Headteacher Miss Jacquie Clarke said that the money would make a big difference to pupils and staff and that exciting times lay ahead.

“Everyone is very excited about us getting the funding. It’s going to make such a big difference to the children’s learning and we can’t wait for the work to start.”

The £370,000 investment is from Lancashire County Council’s Primary Capital Programme and along with around £55,000 raised by the school will fund various improvements. Two classrooms are going to be increased in size, a larger reception area with access to the outdoor area will be created and technology will be boosted throughout the school. Work is expected to start on April 1st and should be finished by October.

Miss Clarke said: “We will have to be a bit flexible because some of the work is going to be done during school time but it will definitely be worth it. Fortunately a lot of the work will be done during the school summer holidays.”
