HAPPA to reopen soon after major refit

The Horses and Ponies Protection Association (HAPPA) at Shores Hey Farm in Black House Lane rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes horses, ponies and donkeys from cruelty and neglect.

The site has been closed to the public since December while construction of new stables, field shelters and a two-storey visitors’ centre took place.

In November the Isolation Unit was officially opened, and was put into use almost immediately as 33 horses and ponies were rescued - the biggest rescue in the Charity’s history.

HAPPA inspectors investigate more than 600 complaints of cruelty and neglect each year.

Chief Officer, Kay Brandist applauded everyone’s efforts in improving the centre ahead of it’s re-opening.

“HAPPA would like to thank everyone who made this work possible – our generous donors, our visitors who have been very generous spirited in supporting the charity whilst the site has limited access, our Architects and Contractors, our Board for making this dream a reality and our wonderful staff members who have coped so well with all the disruption,” she said.

“Your combined efforts have helped to make Shores Hey Farm a top class equine rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing facility supported by commercial activity to ensure a sustainable future for the charity.”

The grand re-opening of the HAPPA centre takes place on Saturday September 5th. A special guest will cut the ribbon at 12 noon.
