Three blooming baskets went missing from the West Street residents asssociation garden last weekend. The theft was discovered on Monday by volunteer Suzanne Davies who spent months growing flowers and plants from seed to fill the baskets

She said: "I went down to water them and discovered that three of the four baskets had been stolen.

This is the first time anything like this has happened at the garden and it is disheartening that someone would steal something from a garden that is there for the community to enjoy."

Volunteers transformed a derelict patch of land into the lovely garden back in 2006 after receiving a grant from the former Padiham Life.

Over the years benches and flowerbeds have been added with an array of colourful pots and trellis covered with flowers.

Suzanne said: "We have had a couple of incidents of vandalism in the past but no-one has ever stolen anything before."

The garden receives regular funding from Padiham Town Council so a small band of volunteers can keep the garden thriving for residents and families in the area to enjoy it.

Suzanne added: "The baskets cost around £15 to £20 each and are quite heavy so someone had planned to take them rather than it being an opportunist theft. They were put out in May and were at their best packed with a variety of flowers and trailing plants."
