Hair transplant hope for Burnley burns victim teen

Chantelle, who nearly died after suffering horrific burns as a baby, marked the occasion with a quiet celebration as her mum, Rose, recently suffered a stroke. Chantelle has been looking after her at their home in Ivy Street.

Chantelle, who has spent a lifetime of having operations to minimise the scarring, could now undergo a hair transplant. She lost most of her hair at the front of her head when a fire ripped through her home when she was a baby. The teenager suffered 24% burns and major lung damage caused by a burning ceiling tile which fell into her cot.

Her dad, Mick said: “We have been to see a specialist in Manchester but the hair transplant operation would be carried out in London.”

Chantelle is now looking forward to starting a hair and beauty course at Nelson and Colne College in September. Among those wishing Chantelle good luck for the future was firefighter Steve Cope who was station officer at Burnley on the night of the dramatic fire. After his crew pulled Chantelle from her cot Steve gave her the kiss of life before she was rushed to hospital.

Chantelle has met with Steve on special occasions over the years including on his wedding day when she was one of the guests of honour and last year when she turned 18.
