Golf club's cash to repair flood damage

The National Lottery cash from Sport England’s Flood Relief Fund will be used to restore the Glen View Golf Academy, in Glen View Road.

In December, Sport England launched the £200,000 fund in a bid to help clean up and repair sports pitches and facilities and get them back up and running.

Burnley Golf Club will use its grant to drain and waterproof the studio section of the academy building and replace damaged equipment.

Club president Mr Geoff Butterfield said: “We are delighted that Sport England has awarded this funding to us which will allow us to repair our golf academy building. Since it opened in April 2015 it has been a proven to be a fantastic facility, where we offer individual and group tuition, utilising the very best golf teaching technology. It is a very popular facility for our members and local people to learn, practice and improve their golf.”

Jennie Price, chief executive of Sport England, added: “We appreciate that sport isn’t a major priority when people’s lives, homes and businesses are at risk. But once communities are starting to get their lives back to normal, being able to use their local pitch or sports club as usual can make a real difference.

“By launching this fund quickly to help with clean up and repair costs, I hope we can give people affected by the floods one less thing to worry about.”
