Get ready to board the Blues Music Train

The Blues Music Train will once again be bringing visitors to The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne, this August Bank Holiday weekend.

For the 11th consecutive year, Community Rail Lancashire will be providing the train, which will leave Blackpool on Friday, August 26th, and arrive in Colne at approximately 7-15pm, just in time for the start of this year’s 27th Anniversary Festival.

With real ale – kindly donated by Moorhouses Brewery in Burnley - and live music on board, what better way to get you in the mood for a weekend of Blues?!

Vintage Blues Band, The Washboard Resonators, will be jumping on board the train in Colne at 3-30pm, along with a cask of beer, and travelling to Blackpool. On the return journey, they will be singing the Blues and picking up passengers on their way to the Festival.

This Yorkshire duo of guitar, banjo and washboard play foot-stomping Blues, Ragtime, Swing and Folk like it was on the street corners of America in the 1920s, 30s and 40s and promise energetic and lively musical sets to get you ready for a night of live music!

Community rail development officer Simon Clarke, who organises the Blues Train, said: “We are really pleased to have supported this event for the last 10 years and think arriving on the Music Train is the best way to start the weekend.”

Additional train services will run over the weekend to accommodate extra commuters and late services will be provided to ensure they don’t miss a moment of this year’s line-up.

Festival spokesman Sue Madigan said: “Travelling by train is, without doubt, the easiest way to get to and from Colne throughout the weekend; and this way, festival-goers are already into the spirit of things before they even step foot off the train!”

Richard Watts, chairman of Community Rail Lancashire Ltd, added: “This event attracts thousands of people to Colne and the rail link from Blackpool, Preston and Blackburn makes the perfect - and green - way to reach it.

“Once again we will be providing additional late night trains from Colne to Preston, making the journey home even easier after a good night out!”
