Gang attempt to rob security van in Haslingden - witness appeal

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery on a security van at the Texaco garage in Blackburn Road, Hasingden, this morning.

The attempted robbery occurred around 6 a.m. when a Loomis security van arrived at the garage and was approached by four men in a silver Vauxhall Astra. The men were armed with a sledgehammer or similar weapon and attacked the side of the van with the security guard inside it.

The men also entered the shop where they tried to rob the second guard but he managed to secure himself in a separate room and the offenders fled.

Fortunately nobody was hurt during the incident and nothing was taken.

The silver Vauxhall Astra car used in the offence was abandoned a short time later in Charles Street. The scene remains cordoned off and a police investigation is underway.

DI Nick Hodgeson said: “I would urge anyone that witnessed any part of this incident or saw anything suspicious in the area around 6 a.m. or in the days leading up to the offence to contact police.

“Prior to the security van arriving at the garage we know the new registration Vauxhall Astra was parked in the car park to the rear of the garage so I would be keen to speak with anyone that saw the men arriving or leaving the scene.”
