Fresh CCTV clues to Burnley street worker sex attack

POLICE released this new CCTV image to help find a man who subjected a Burnley street worker to a serious sexual assault.

The 30-year-old woman was attacked by an Asian man at the side of PC World on the Anchor Retail Park on Thursday, July 28th, around 9-40 p.m.

After the offence the man ran away in the direction of the canal in Colne Road. He is described as being in his mid-20s and was wearing jeans and a short sleeved top.

The victim met her alleged attacker in Colne Road at the junction with Church Street and police have issued CCTV images captured from a passing bus which show the Asian man leaning against a bus stop outside Prestige on Colne Road.

A major police investigation continues and police are urging anyone that recognises the man to come forward.

DI Paul Broxson from Burnley CID said: “I would appeal to anybody that recognises the man in the CCTV or anyone in the Colne Road area of Burnley on Thursday, July 28th, that saw anything suspicious to contact police, however irrelevant they feel the information is.

“It is possible the man was loitering in the area immediately prior to the incident and someone may have seen him. In particular I’d like to speak with a woman that was sat at the bus stop and another lady that got off the bus as they could be key witnesses.”

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact DC 3395 Leah Bennett on 01706 237344 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
