Free parking dates in Burnley announced

Burnley Borough Council has launched a new campaign to attract more shoppers and visitors to the town centre.

The Rediscover Shopping in Burnley campaign includes selected free parking on Saturdays. Free parking on the selected Saturdays – August 11th, September 8th and October 13th – will be available between 10am and 6pm on Burnley Council’s Pay and Display car parks.

Coun. Andy Tatchell, Executive member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “It is a priority for the council to attract more shoppers and visitors to Burnley and to boost the town centre economy. It is our hope that the selected free parking Saturdays will encourage more people to visit Burnley, extend the length of their stay, and make Burnley their future place of choice for their weekend shopping.

“A selection of free parking days was one of our election pledges which we have fulfilled at our earliest opportunity.

“There are many changes underway in Burnley and a range of companies showing their commitment to expand their business in Burnley. The latest announcement that NEXT is expanding and moving into the former TJ Hughes building is a great boost for the town centre and reflects its continued faith in Burnley as a vibrant shopping centre.”

Coun. Howard Baker, Executive member for Housing and Environment, said that Burnley town centre was “bucking the trend and holding its own in comparison to some other towns.”
