Nelson’s game with Holker Old Boys in the North-West Counties League First Division on Boxing Day was called off as a mark of respect.

Manager Paul Paynter described the news as a “great shock”. He said: “Paul was very raw but had a good physique and was ready to learn. He had so much potential.

“He had a happy-go-lucky attitude and never seemed to be down-hearted. He did not let anything get him down and always seemed a nice, friendly type of lad who nobody had a bad word to say about.”

A Facebook page to commemorate his life has been set up by his older sisters.

The facts surrounding Jason’s death have been reported to the coroner.
