Two friends from Burnley have donated £1,626 to Pendleside Hospice after organising a fund-raising football match.
Lee Ashworth and Daryl Graham organised the match which took place at the Arbories in Padiham in May, and saw them each captain a side – with Lee’s team coming out on top.
Winning captain Lee said he wanted to give something back after the hospice cared for his step-dad 11 years ago.
He said: “It was a great day, thanks to Daryl and everyone who helped me organise the event.
“I’d also like to say thanks to Brian and Maryann Hough from Padiham and Hapton Fund-raising Group for coming along for the day.”
The pair raised the money by asking players and spectators to make donations to the hospice.
Sammi Bracewell, fund-raiser at Pendleside Hospice, said: “Thanks to Lee, Daryl and everyone involved, we are truly grateful for their ongoing support.
“Last year they raised £1,000 which was fantastic, but this year has blown that amount out of the water.
“Proceeds from their football match will support the vital work we do to promote and enhance quality of life for people with a life-limiting illness.”
