Folk star Kate Rusby to appear at Burnley Mechanics

Rusby’s interpretations of traditional songs and finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches far beyond the genre – a rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given her expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth.

If you think you don’t know her work, think of the BBC comedy series “Jam and Jerusalem”. Its theme tune was Rusby’s version of “The Village Green Preservation Society” and more of her songs featured as incidental music throughout the three series.

Last November she released her much-anticipated new album, “Make The Light”, her first record of completely self-composed songs, well received by critics and fans. It features Rusby’s all-new band who, as ever, have been drawn from the cream of Britain’s folk instrumentalists. Accompanied by these players – Damien O’Kane on guitar, tenor guitar and banjo; Kevin McGuire on double bass; Edmund Boyd on guitar and bouzouki and Julian Sutton on melodeon – Rusby will perform songs from “Make The Light” together with much-loved favourites chosen from across her entire back catalogue. Her singing, engaging Yorkshire wit and new ensemble’s intuitive support ensure audiences will be treated to a remarkable and uplifting concert experience.
