Heavy rain and flooding have hit a popular 5km run in Burnley.

The Burnley Parkrun was called off after flooding left parts of the Towneley Park course waterlogged.

Dozens of runners take part in the time trial race which is held every 9am on a Saturday.

Organisers had hoped the run could be held despite wet and windy conditions earlier this morning.

But the course was so heavily waterlogged that officials called the race meeting off.

Weather forecasters say rain will continue to sweep across Burnley with drier and brighter spells later this afternoon.
